Who Are You Out There?—An Invitation to Writers and Readers

Who Are You Out There?—An Invitation to Writers and Readers

I have been blogging for three years now, since May of 2010, just after I returned from a trip to Zimbabwe. When I began I was quite sporadic, and there was almost a full year when I hardly posted anything. At the outset I had a very vague idea about my intent. It was partly to experiment with writing about things in a different format than my usual long-form fiction, shorter pieces about things that came from my day-to-day ruminations. I also hoped to fulfill that vague agenda of “creating a platform” that is required these days for a writer to get her work out, and for agents and editors to take her seriously. And there was also an unconscious goal I now recognize: I was interested in finding a community of strangers who shared my interests in writing and reading, and shared my notion that we are all entangled (in the Einstein/ physics sense).

Needless to say, having multiple and vague purposes may not have been the best approach to beginning a blog. But I have found it fills an important role in my life, and I have enjoyed posting, when inspired, my thoughts about reading and writing and occasionally, Life. I have been getting a lot more visitors of late than I did in the early days, perhaps because I am exploring more exclusively my thoughts about reading and writing. Perhaps I am finally hitting my stride.
But I am curious about you, my readers. Who are you? If you return to my blog, why do you? I have a vague sense of a community out there, but I would like to get to know you better. Please comment if you are so inclined.

This is my first time coming to your blog and immediately I was caught by the tiny snippets of reflections of writing that you have made available for us as readers to enjoy. As a college student my time is spread rather thin as it is moving from classes to writing essays etc and to have small bites of well-written thought-provoking blogs is actually quite convenient, especially as a young writer trying to understand what his writing life means to him and how he can live out his writing life in a way that can sustain him economically as well. I look forward to returning to your blog and keeping up with the things that you post and I hope too that your blog will set off further sparks of inspiration within myself as well. I also have my own blog but I find it hard to be disciplined and work on it consistently. And really this is the burden of most writers I assume, having that discipline. But like you are apt to observe the call to write will always be there and will always be nagging at the back of one's brain reminding you that there are still greater things to observe and say about the world and that in a certain way I too can have a voice in the cacophony of it all.
